September 2011 Newsletter

Dear Members,Welcome back to the Norwell Women’s Club! Hope everyone had a great summer. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered for a chair position and to those who assist them!
Many thanks to Jennifer McVay who has offered to coordinate theTurkey Trot to be held on November 13. Please see her information below and please email her if you can help out with one simple, small task to be completed on your own time frame.
Our “Welcome back Social” will be hosted by Pamela Duckworth on Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 (51 Tara Drive). Please bring a Norwell friend to this social meeting for a night of catching up over a glass of wine.
We will focus on just getting to know each other this night and will not have detailed event discussions.
Is anyone willing to help out with the wine tasting? We thought we could repeat last year’s event which is very well documented by Pat Bigger. We would love to have a committee in place by Nov 10th. Another option would be to have a smaller scale event.
Thanks to Eileen Corbett for chairing the middle school dances. See below for her information. With the 7th grade class extremely large she is having the first 2 dances at the middle school which has a higher occupancy capacity to try to accommodate the increase in students. She will then determine the location of the third dance.
The Halloween Fun Day will be coordinated by Kristen Jervey and will be held on
Saturday, October 29. Kristen will be looking for food donations from our members so that we can avoid asking the local supermarkets. Please contact her at kikliskristen@hotmail.com if you can help out.
Sincerely,
Barb Humphreys, President, Norwell Woman’s Club

Dear members,
Welcome back from Spring Break; hope everyone had a relaxing time away from the busy school days! Thank you to Pamela Duckworth who hosted our last social meeting. It was a lot of fun!
See below for details on our annual year-end dinnerplanned by Sally Schiller and Melanie Johnson to be held on Wednesday, June 8th. Sally will host the night again this year and dinner will be catered by Plated Gourmet. Please either send Sally $25 for your reservation or pay on line at the Women’s Club website (norwellwomensclub.org.) Please sign up by May 25th so we can get final numbers to the caterer.
The wine tasting event on April 8th at Black Rock was a huge success – with profits estimated to be about $20,000‼‼ Thank you to Pat Bigger, Jane Rohan, and their committee members who worked together to make this event so successful. We had great wine, great food and heard wine details from a Master Sommelier (one of very few people given this title since 1970!). Our live auction was spiced up with Jim Wells, who did a great job engaging the crowd for the live auction. Despite the untimely fire alarm caused by harmless smoke in the kitchen that went off after the 2nd item, most people stayed to make the remaining several auction items a success.
I will be president of the club for one more year. I’m in the process of seeing which committee chairs will stay on (thanks to the many who said yes already!). We will be looking for wine tasting and turkey trot road race chairs for next year. Please call me if you would like to chair either of these committees. Sally Schiller and Melanie Johnson created the current format for the November race which works well. I thank Sally for her assistance this year while Jill Donelan was away on business for a few weeks. Thank you, Pat, for becoming a wine co-chair with Jane. Your extensive Women’s Club experience is what resulted in our huge profit! Pat has been a great leader for the Women’s Club for many years chairing almost all committees along with being president.
Reiko Beach has completed the yearbook. Companies have been very generous this year with ads so please pay special attention to our ads and give them business whenever possible. We rely heavily on local businesses to support our club through direct donations for events and by getting free/subsidized business. A big thank you goes out to Phyllis Wenzel of Image Resolutions digital color printing experts for always being so generous with our printing needs! Also thank you Reiko Beach of TRB Design Inc. for keeping our website up-to-date and for your computer expertise in helping us with this newsletter!
Sincerely,
Barb Humphreys, President, Norwell Woman’s Club

HUGE SUCCESS!!!! WINE TASTING UPDATE
A message from Pat Bigger…….
As many of you have heard, the Wine Tasting Dinner at Black Rock Country Club was a huge success thanks to the many donors and our 202 guests who attended. It was a beautiful venue, great food and wine, and truly an entertaining evening. We believe that the evening set a financial milestone for the Club raising over $21,000 for our charities. Many thanks go to our committee members, particularly Jane Bogaty who arranged the beautiful table centrpieces, Phyllis Wenzel of Image Resolutions for the design and printing of our posters and post cards and the printing of our programs. Wendy Bawabe of Bawabe Designs for the design of our program and a BIG thanks to Reiko and Tom Beach of TRB design, inc. for the many hours spent in developing our historical slide show. Lastly, a big “thanks” goes to Pamela Duckworth, our Financial Ace who managed the auctions brilliantly. As in some past years, we created a Community Board, the revenue of which will go to the Council on Aging to help with the furnishings of their expansion project. Silvia Murphy and Nancy Bailey did a great job promoting the BB to our members, many of who graciously donated an item or service which raised $1,370! We will be looking for someone to chair this event next year, so if anyone is interested, please contact Barb Humphreys at barbhumphreys1@comcast.net.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING…….
SOLD OUT!!! WINE TASTING – FRIDAY, APRIL 8 – 6:30pm – BLACK ROCK COUNTRY CLUB – HINGHAM, MA
Our Wine Tasting Dinner will feature a four-course meal, music by the NHS Jazz Band and wine tastings provided by Vin Divino and Master Sommelier, Damon Ornowski will be providing and presenting the wines.
At the Wine Tasting, we are going to have a great Community Board adorned with many pictures of our much out-of-date Council On Aging (COA) facility, with crowded work spaces and inadequate handicap access. In reviewing the Club’s donations of the years, our Committee realized that we have done little for our seniors in town. Therefore, to help the efforts of the renovation of the COA facility, our goal is to replace their heavy and broken multi-use tables and uncomfortable metal chairs. Our goal is to provide them with lightweight tables that can be easily moved and chairs with cushioned seats. This furniture is used every day for lunches, craft classes, various board games, cards, etc.
So, how can you help? Our goal is gather items and services the descriptions of which will posted on our Community Board the night of April 8th. If you, a family member or friend can help with this effort, please contact Nancy Bailey at nancy.bailey@rocklandtrust.com or Silvia Murphy at brianandsilvia@verizon.net. Be creative…we’ve received donations of services, deserts, flower arrangements, babysitting and dog walking. For those of you who are unable to attend the event and wish to donate to the COA Project, please make your check payable to the Norwell Women’s Club and send it to our PO Box 834. The donations received will be added to the funds collected from the Community Board. We hope to make this a win win for everyone. Our seniors will be delighted and most appreciative.
See you there!
