President’s Notes                                                                     December  2009

Dear Members,

Happy Holidays,

We had our annual Cookie and Ornament Swap on Thursday, December 3rd.  A big thank you goes to Cheri Farley for hosting this event.  It was a wonderful evening with plenty of food and laughter.

November was a busy month with another Middle School Dance, as well as the Turkey Trot.  The Turkey Trot raised an amazing $3,400+!  Great job by Jill Donelan who handled the entire event without a committee!  We are all grateful for your hard work.

The dances continue to be successfully organized and run by the Dance Committee, lead by Dianne Malloy and Diane Daly.  Thank you for all your hard work and the work of your committee – you are doing a great job!

This coming month will be busy for everyone.  Let’s do our best to remember the needs of the food pantry and the closet.  At this difficult economic time, the needs of the community only increase.  Anything we can all do around the holidays, and all year through is definitely appreciated.   Please see below for the Norwell Adopt-a-Family information.  They are still looking for 42 families to be adopted.

The Norwell Gardens Luncheon was a success on December 4th.  Thank you to all who baked and served.  Again, Micci thank you for organizing this very fulfilling event.  The “Decibals” from Norwell High School were beautiful to listen to.

Karin Gilmartin is organizing a fun evening out in January (in lieu of the wine tasting) to be held at Boston Bowl in Hanover.  Tickets are on sale now!  For $40/pp you will be able to bowl two strings, including shoe rental, and appetizers.  There will be a cash bar and some fun raffle items.  Please organize a team of bowlers, or buy a single ticket and you will be put together with others.  It will be a great way to “Strike out the winter doldrums”, so please contact Karin to purchase your tickets!

Membership dues are due. The yearbook will be published soon, and if you want your information in the Yearbook dues need to be paid.  You can mail your $30 check to the Norwell Women’s Club c/o Jessica Chase, Membership Chair.

The January meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night, January 12th at the Middle School at 7:30 pm.  I hope everyone has a very happy and safe holiday season.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.

Warmest Regards,

Nancy L. Bailey                          Karin Gilmartin                     Karen Reynolds

Membership Update

Please go on line and pay your membership dues!  The annual yearbook will be created soon and anyone who has not paid will not have their information published.  This is an invaluable directory of friends and associates used by many to network.  You may also send your check for $30 to Jessica Chase (30 Wildcat Lane).  Your quick response will make her job easier to compile the current members for the printing of the 2009-2010 Yearbook.

Next Meeting – New Members Meeting

Our next meeting will be on January 12th at the Norwell Middle School at 7:30.  Please RSVP to Ellen Allen at 659-8120 or at ellenrob@comcast.

Adopt-a-Family

We are writing to thank you for your previous help with our Holiday Adopt-a-Family program and to ask for your time and generosity again this year.  If you are able and willing, kindly reply ASAP to Alicia Tedeschi at norwellFP@aol.com. At this point we still have 42 families to be adopted.

As you can imagine in this economic climate, more families than ever are in need of a helping hand.  We also understand that you may or may not be able to contribute to the extent you have in the past; please know that whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated.  When you respond, please let us know if you would like to adopt a specific number of people or a complete family, and if you have a preference for specific ages or genders.   We are also happy to accept general gift cards that we will match with families. There is also a women looking for a size 18 dress to attend her sister’s funeral so donations of second-hand clothes are also acceptable.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide this year. Warm regards, The Norwell Adopt-a-Family Program

Should you want something to be included on the cable channel, please do the same. For other publications (e.g. Patriot Ledger), include the appropriate email address for submission.

Youth Dances

The 7th and 8th grade dance committee is looking for 6 volunteers to chaperone the 7th and 8th grade dance on Friday, January 22nd from 7:10 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  If you can help, please contact Diane Daly at diane.daly@comcast.net or Dianne Malloy at dimalloy@yahoo.com.  The dances remain one of the club’s major fundraisers, and much help is needed for their success. Please also encourage your friends who have 7th and 8th graders that their help is always welcome.   Thanks in advance for your help!

Norwell Knoll

It has been a tradition for many years for members of the Norwell Women’s Club to provide snacks on the first Monday morning of each month to the residents of the Norwell Knoll on Washington Street for a coffee social.   Since we are no longer able to provide our own baked goods per order of the Health Department, the Women’s Club provides funding each month to Micci Fitsgibbons to purchase and deliver the baked goods.

The Closet

We are now accepting winter clothes. Please make sure that the clothing and shoes that you bring to the closet are not stained nor have holes in them. If you wouldn’t wear it they probably won’t either. Thank you for all of your donations; the people who receive them are very grateful. If you would like to help out please email Micci Fitzgibbons (miccifitz@aol.com) or Chris Gillis (seagirley@aol.com).

President’s Notes   October 2009

Dear Members,

Have you joined our membership and paid your dues yet for 2009-2010?  If not, please do so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!  You can either mail in a check to the post office box (P.O. Box 834, Norwell, MA 02061), or log on to http://norwellwomensclub.org and pay your membership online!  It is so easy and efficient!  Remember, if you do not pay your fees on or before November 30th you will not be included in our Yearbook, and your contact information will be dropped from the email distribution list.  PLEASE stay in touch and join today!

The Halloween Fun Day was a great success as was the first 7th and 8th Grade Dance.  Again, the dance committee can always use help and volunteers – please see the attached form to contact them.

I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy Sunday morning and the Turkey Trot!  Jill Donelan put a lot of work into the event and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.  We will have a report from Jill in December.

This time of year is very difficult on many families and individuals.  Please think of the food pantry and closet for your donations.  In addition, the Adopt-a-Family information will be coming out soon.  You can contact Reiko Beach and Kathy King Tedeschi to adopt a needy person(s) for the holiday gift giving season.

I am often contacted regarding community events and individuals looking to promote their events/products to our club.  We would like to expose all of our members to the local events, and yet do not want to promote any individual business. If you want an event to be published on our website under the “calendar” section, please contact Reiko.  Otherwise, we will reference the event in our Communities section of the Chatter.

Our next meeting is the ever popular “Cookie and Ornament Swap”.  This year’s hostess is Cheri Farley at 7 Autumn Lane.  The night begins at 7:30 pm and you just bring a holiday ornament and/or some cookies.  With the cookies – however many you bring, you can choose from the vast selection and bring other varieties home.   It is fun – please spread the word and invite someone you haven’t seen recently to join in the festivities and fun! You can sign up for the event online, or contact Cheri directly.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.

President’s Notes                         October  2009

Dear Members,

A HUGE thank you to Anna Brown for hosting our New Members’ Meeting on October 14, 2009!  It was a lovely evening with many of our existing member and some new ones too!

Coming up soon will be the Halloween Fun Day to take place on Saturday morning, October 24th at the Norwell Middle School from 10:00 am until noon.  If you can help set-up, bake something, work at the event, or help with the clean up please contact Sara Burns.

Many of our events this year need some extra help.  It would be truly appreciated if everyone could look at the list of committees and try to help in some way.   Specifically, our dance committee needs someone to organize the chaperones.  The dances cannot be put on without them.  This can be accomplished through the NMS PTO as well as using the Middle School directory – please help if you can.

The attached write-ups from the committees will talk about their particular events and needs.  Again, if we could all volunteer for just one – it could make this year a successful one yet again.  We are still looking for a President for next year 2010-2011; please give it some thought.

Also attached is a list of the dates of the events which have been scheduled so far this year.  We still need a hostess for our February meeting.  Thank you to Cheri Farley for hosting our holiday ornament and cookie swap, and to Pat Bigger for hosting the April meeting.

Our website is almost complete!  Reiko Beach has been putting a lot of effort into the new design. You can all go on to www.norwellwomensclub.org and pay your dues on line.  This is such an easy process and will make organizing our club and events so much more simple.  In addition, you can go online and register for the upcoming Turkey Trot to be held on November 15th at the Norwell High School

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.

Halloween Party/Parade

Our annual Halloween Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 10-12noon at the Middles School.  The committee is still looking for volunteers to help the day of the event as well as volunteers to bake for the event.  Please contact Sara Burns (charlestown48@comcast.net) or Sarah McDonald (sarahkmac@gmail.com) if you are able to assist in any way.  The day will be a fun day of food, crafts and of course a costume parade.

Youth Dances

The next youth dance will be held on November 20th from 7:30 to 10:00 pm at the Norwell Town Hall. Please contact either Diane Daly at diane.daly@comcast.net or Dianne Malloy at dimalloy@yahoo.com to chaperone this dance or to sign up for a future dance. Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run-November 15, 2009

The 4th annual Norwell Women’s Club Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be November 15, 2009 at 10:00am, rain or shine, at the Norwell High School.  We need volunteers to help secure sponsorship, organize volunteers on race day, help with advertising, pre-race pick-up, race day registration, food and entertainment.  The entry form and online registration will soon be available on the Women’s Club website, www.norwellwomensclub.org.  In addition, if you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring the event pass their name and information along.  There are different levels of sponsorship: $100 = company name listed on the back of the t-shirt given to the participants; $250 or more = your name and logo on t-shirt; $500 or more your name and logo will appear in a larger font on t-shirt.  In addition to monetary contributions, we are looking for donations for food/beverages and items that can be included in the goodie bags handed out to participants.  I have already contacted Extreme Pita, Bay State Physical Therapy, and the Boston Running Co. in Derby.  We raised more than $8000 last year and I hope to achieve the same success this year.  We encourage every member of the Women’s Club and their family and friends to join us in running or walking the Turkey Trot.  If anyone would like to help with the event please contact the race coordinator Jill Donelan at jillmarie.donelan@gmail.com.

Norwell Knoll

It has been a tradition for many years for members of the Norwell Women’s Club to provide snacks on the first Monday morning of each month to the residents of the Norwell Knoll for a coffee social. Please contact Micci Fitzgibbons (miccifitz@aol.com or call her at 659-5972) if you would like to buy baked goods for the Norwell Knoll (we are no longer able to bake from our homes due to food permit issues).  The address is 329 Washington St. and the food can be left on a table in the first room on the left as you enter the building.

Wine Tasting

At this time there has been no one willing to organize the wine tasting.  Thus, there will most likely not be a WT event this year.  However, Karin Gilmartin is working on a potential new “night out” which we will keep you informed on as things progress (stay tuned).

Fashion Show

Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 8, 2010 for the big show at Indian Pond Country Club!
