May Chatter

President’s Notes                                                    May 2010

Dear Members,

Our meeting last Monday involved a great discussion about our donations.  This year the Club raised over $25,000!!  Karen Reynolds and her committee reviewed all the requests this year and compared that to prior year donations.  They all put a thought and work into this process – and we truly appreciate it.

The scholarship committee, chaired by Pat Bigger, has decided on the five scholarship recipients.  The announcement of the recipients will be made on June 4th at the awards ceremony at the High School.

There remain openings in the Boards and Committees for next year.  We have found chairwomen for the dances, wine tasting, egg hunt (a new committee), yearbook, and senior luncheon.  We still need a President, President-Elect, Publicity and for the Bowling Fun Night (this event will not take place unless someone organizes it).  Many people are willing to help on each committee, but we need someone to organize the groups.

Although the Club continues to be a success and continues to donate to worthwhile causes and needs in our neighborhoods – we need help.  We run several fun family events every year and they are treasured within our community.  We have a few new members who have immediately stepped up to get involved in our events – but we need more of our membership to find time to get involved in at least ONE event/committee.  Please give it some thought.

The yearend dinner has been set for June 15th at Sally Schiller’s home at 150 Lincoln Street at 7 pm.  This year will have a more relaxed atmosphere and we hope that many will attend.  Since this event will be catered, we need everyone who wishes to attend to buy a ticket on line or mail a $25 check to Sally Schiller to help pay for the event.  It will be a fun night to celebrate the success of the club and kick off the summer!  I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Warmest Regards,

Nancy L. Bailey ~ President 781-987-1266 Nancy.bailey@rocklandtrust.com

April Chatter

President’s Notes                                                          April 2010

Dear Members,

A big “Thank You” to Pat Bigger for hosting our April meeting, and thank you to Karin Gilmartin for filling in for me and running the meeting. Several important items were discussed.

The recap of the Bunny Breakfast showed the event earned a whopping $1,081! This exceeded the budgeted amount of $800 – thank you for all the hard work put into the organization by both Jessica Chase and Sara McCullough. The Norwell Recreation Department held their final Egg Hunt right after the breakfast. At this last meeting there was much discussion about whether or not the NWC should continue this tradition of the Egg Hunt. There seems to be a consensus that we should continue this fun and community oriented event. As with any event, however, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! We need someone to sign up to chair a committee for the breakfast, and another to chair a committee for the egg hunt. It seems that the community loves the event – but we need everyone to help out. Please let me, or one of the Board Members, know if you would be willing to chair these wonderful events.

The recap of the Fashion Show was preliminary due to the fact the meeting took place only two business days after the Show. It was an amazing night – I hope everyone was able to make it. Thank you so much to Heather Creel and her committee members who worked tirelessly to make this event a night to remember! It was not only a large fundraiser for our club but also a different, fun, stylish and enjoyable evening. We will have the final figures soon to discuss with our donations committee and membership.

Our donations committee, head by Karen Reynolds will be meeting soon to discuss a direction for the funds we have raised this year. Please make sure any requests for donations have been submitted.   Pat Bigger will also be meeting soon with her scholarship committee to make decisions on the recipients of the NWC awards.

Our year is wrapping up and we need to focus on next year.  The thought has been introduced to perhaps have one of the large events each year – so as to not burn out our supporters (both financially and the volunteers). Perhaps we should re-introduce the wine tasting next year and take a break from the fashion show? No year’s schedule is cast in stone – please consider volunteering and heading up a new event, or taking on one of the traditional ones. It is very rewarding being a volunteer and giving of your time and energy to support the wonderful causes the NWC has supported for years.

The May meeting is scheduled for Monday night, May 17th at the Norwell Middle School at 7:30 pm.  Please join us for this final meeting to discuss our donations for the year and our plan for next year.

Our year-end dinner has also been scheduled. Sally Schiller will host the event on June 15th at 7:00pm at her home at 150 Lincoln Street, Norwell. Please go on-line and register for this night. The cost is $25/pp and can be paid either on-line or by mailing a check payable to the Norwell Women’s Club to Sally Schiller at her address above. The night will be fun and casual – please come and wrap up another productive fundraising year!

Mar Chatter

President’s Notes                                                    March 20

Dear Members,

Thank you to those few that made it to the March business meeting. It was a terribly rainy night and I know several people were involved in bailing out their basements.
A few very important dates are coming up with the Bunny Breakfast scheduled for Saturday morning, March 27th at 8:30 am at the Norwell Middle School cafeteria; as well as the Annual Fashion Show on Thursday, April 8th at 6:30pm at Indian Pond Country Club. Both events are great community events and I urge everyone to participate. I know the breakfast is probably more centered on the young children, but please contact Jessica Chase if you can help with set-up, baking, working or clean-up.
We all need to get out for a fun ladies night at the Fashion Show! This year’s event sounds even more elaborate and glamorous than last year’s huge success.   Tickets are on sale on our website and there are a limited amount of schwag bags with many goodies inside – so buy your ticket early! Don’t forget that the cost of the ticket increases after April 1st and no tickets are being sold at the door. This is even more incentive to get on-line now!
The role of the President remains open for the Club next year. This role, although it sounds demanding is not a difficult one. Each committee is self sufficient and runs the individual events smoothly due to the support of the members. The President just has to be the center ‘go to” person with questions to point others in the right direction. Please consider this – it is a very worthwhile cause we are all involved in and we all need to share in the management of it.
The April meeting is scheduled for Monday night, April 12th at the home of Pat Bigger, 2 Loring Drive at 7:30 pm.  Please contact Pat at Tpbigger@aol.com to let her know if you will be bringing appetizer, dessert or beverage.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.
Warmest Regards,

The Women’s Club of Norwell

President’s Notes
February 2010

It has been a great beginning to a new decade!  The Bowling Fun Night was a great success thank you to Karin Gilmarten and Lisa Murphy.  The Norwell Mariner did a great spread for our Club highlighting the great fundraising activities the Norwell Women’s Club does on an annual basis.  Thank you again to all who participated – and I hope more can come for another Bowling Night next year!  It was truly a great time.

Our February meeting was hosted by the lovely Susie Scheller.  Thank you, Susie, for your gracious hospitality.  The discussions of the evening centered around the upcoming Bunny Breakfast (March 27th at the Norwell Middle School) being organized by Jessica Chase and her committee, as well as the fast approaching Fashion Show event due to take place on April 8th.   I would ask that each of you please get on-line now and purchase your tickets to the Fashion Show event.  We need everyone to support this last large fundraiser of the year. There are many local charities in need of financial support this year as well as to the graduating Norwell Seniors in need of scholarships.  Heather Creel and her committee are working hard at making this year’s event surpass the success of last year – and that won’t be easy!

No one has expressed interest in stepping into the role of the President for the Club next year.

President’s Notes
January 2010

Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season.  Thank you to everyone who attended Tuesday night’s meeting and welcome to the new members!

I am asking everyone to contact Karin Gilmartin (karin.gilmartin@rsmi.com) or Lisa Murphy (emurd65a@comcast.net) to purchase tickets for you individually or to buy a team!  We need everyone to join in the fun of the evening!  It will be a casual atmosphere with good food, a lot of laughs and an overall great time – all of which will benefit our fundraising goals.  This has been a difficult year for many individuals and families, but we must remember that there are several local charities which depend upon the donations from our Club to help them out.  The seniors at Norwell High School benefit from our fundraising as well – so let’s get out there and bowl!!!!!!!

Membership dues are due.  The yearbook will be published soon, and if you want your information in the Yearbook dues need to be paid.  You can mail your $30 check to the Norwell Women’s Club c/o Jessica Chase, Membership Chair.  We are still searching for additional members – so let’s spread the word!

Our next meeting will be hosted by Susan Scheller on February 11th at 7:30pm.  Susan lives at 116 Meeting House Lane.  Please contact Susan at trilogyusa@msn.com to let her know that you will be coming and whether you can bring an appetizer, dessert or wine.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.

Join us Friday, January 29th 7:00pm – 11:00pm at the newly renovated Boston Bowl in Hanover.  The $40 per person price will include 2 strings of Tenpin Bowling (Big Balls), Shoe rental, Pizza & Appetizers and a lot of fun!  Cash Bar with Beer & Wine.  Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams along with the highest scoring Male and Female bowlers of the evening.  Tickets will be on sale at the Holiday Meeting this Thursday.  They can be purchased individually or as a team (6 bowlers).   Tickets can also be purchased after the meeting by contacting Karin Gilmartin at karingilmartin@comcast.net or Lisa Murphy at emurd65a@comcast.net.   Please help spread the word so this can be a sellout event!

Youth Dances
The 7th and 8th grade dance committee is looking for 6 volunteers to chaperone the 7th and 8th grade dance on Friday, January 22nd from 7:10 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  If you can help, please contact Diane Daly at diane.daly@comcast.net or Dianne Malloy at dimalloy@yahoo.com.  The dances remain one of the club’s major fundraisers, and much help is needed for their success. Please also encourage your friends who have 7th and 8th graders that their help is always welcome.   Thanks in advance for your help!

Fashion Show
The Spring Fashion Show will be here in just a few months.  Plans are underway to make this the best show ever!  Don’t miss this exciting event, featuring the latest fashions from many area retailers, all enjoyed in a fun Hollywood theme: Thursday, April 8, 6:30pm at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston.

The next planning meeting is Thursday, January 28, at 11:30 at Merchants Row.  All are welcome to attend.  Posters are available and the website is live for ticket ordering.
For more information, contact Heather Creel at creel35@comcast.net

Bunny Breakfast
The Annual Bunny Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday March 27th from 8:30-9:45 followed immediately by the Norwell Rec Center’s egg hunt.  We are currently looking for volunteers for the planning committee and for the event itself.  Please contact Cristina McCullough (cristina_mcc928@yahoo.com) or Jessica Chase (jmchase2@comcast.net) if you would like to be on the planning committee, can volunteer to bake or buy items for the breakfast or if you are able to volunteer for set-up/clean-up or are able to help during the event (or if you have teenage children who would like to volunteer).

Norwell Knoll
It has been a tradition for many years for members of the Norwell Women’s Club to provide snacks on the first Monday morning of each month to the residents of the Norwell Knoll on Washington Street for a coffee social.   Since we are no longer able to provide our own baked goods per order of the Health Department, the Women’s Club provides funding each month to Micci Fitsgibbons to purchase and deliver the baked goods.

The Closet
Looking for volunteers to work in the Closet located at the Town Hall 3rd floor on Thursdays from 2 – 3:30.  Please contact Micci Fitzgibbons (miccifitz@aol.com) or Chris Gillis (seagirley@aol.com) to sign up.

Publicity
Members are welcome to submit items for publication to Patti Nelson, marshman59@aol.com or781-659-6620 for the Norwell Mariner, a minimum of two weeks prior to the publication coming out on Thursday. Please indicate if you would like to run the announcement/item just that once or several times leading up to the event (I can usually tell by what it is). Should you want something to be included on the cable channel, please do the same. For other publications (e.g. Patriot Ledger), include the appropriate email address for submission.
