Hello Members,
Planning is well under way for this year’s wine tasting for March 30th at Black Rock Country Club in Hingham. Reserve your tickets with Pat Bigger (tpbigger@aol.com) or order tickets online. Tables of 8 can be reserved so get your friends or neighbors together at one table and enjoy a night out. See below for more details. Currently we do not have a chair to run the bunny breakfast. Please contact me if you are interested in coordinating this event. Without a chair person, this event cannot take place.
Our next meeting will be held on February 2nd at Pat Bigger’s home (2 Loring Drive). She will be hosting a wine tasting meeting at 6:30 so feel free to attend that and the general meeting will begin at 7:30.
At the end of the year this year in May we will be hosting a casual night of wine and appetizers instead of a dinner. This change will allow people to join us last minute without planning a month in advance, hopefully allowing ladies to just swing by to chat after getting the family situated for the night. We do not have a host at this time so if you are interested, just email me.
Don’t miss the community section at the end of this newsletter. There are some great events coming up in Norwell!
Sincerely,
Barb Humphreys, President, Norwell Woman’s Club

“A TASTE FOR GIVING” FUNDRAISER – Friday, March 30
Our largest annual fund raiser this year will be a four-course wine tasting dinner at Black Rock Country Club scheduled for Friday, March 30th at 6:30 PM. This year we will be featuring fine wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle in Seattle, Washington. Chef Brad Cromwell of Black Rock CC has planned a very creative menu fit for the most discriminating pallet. As in the past, we will have live entertainment, a slide show of NWC’s activities from past years. Our focus will be to raise funding through a silent and live auction for the various local groups, schools, and individual needs of our local area. This year our Community Board’s revenue will be donated to Habitat for Humanity in support of the first Norwell home being built on Pine St.
The event will again feature wine baskets from “Main Streets & Back Roads of Norwell”. Neighborhoods have been identified and a few members will be asked to be their street’s “team leader” to collect donations. These baskets raised over $1,700 last year. We hope that you will support our committee’s efforts. If you frequent a restaurant, salon, another type of business that you believe would donate a gift certificate, product or service, our committee would very much appreciate the help. The value does not matter; as last year we will bundle the donations as appropriate. Our categories are: Dining, Home, Spa/Personal Care, Golf Rounds, Sporting Events, Fashion and Misc. Items. Many hands make light work! For any donations, please contact Pat Bigger at tpbigger@aol.com or 781-640-7542(c).
Reservations and payment for the event may be made by going to our web site atwww.norwellwomensclub.org and click on “Wine Dinner”.
Checks may also be sent to Pat at 2 Loring Drive. Details are as follows:
Cost: $100 per person.Tables of 8 may be reserved either online or by contacting Pat; if you and your guests wish to sit with others, please contact Pat.
Special dietary / lent requests must be made at least 48 hrs. in advance.
Our committee is hard at work to make this a very special upscale event. This is always a sellout and more than 50 reservations have been received as of this writing. We hope you and your friends will join us!!

Hello Members,
Thank you to Jennifer McVay for organizing Sunday’s Turkey Trot Race. We had great weather and many runners and the event was a profitable day! Jenn has offered to run the race again next year and will get started organizing next year’s race at the end of this school year. Please email her at Jannsloper@yahoo.com if you would like to be on her committee. It is such a manageable task when we have lots of time to plan! Thanks to her helpers: Jill Donelan, Sally Schiller, Phyllis Wenzel (who should have been home sick in bed), Patti and Danielle Nelson, Karen Driscoll, Caroline Corbin, Betsy Emsing, Nancy Bailey, Steve McVay, and Roger Hatfield (and me too).
Our next event is the Norwell Garden’s Luncheon to be held on December 2nd. See below for details. The seniors look forward to a nice home-cooked lunch! It’s that time of year again – Liz McCarron will be organizing the Festival of Trees for the Cranberry Hospice. She has been creating the hospice tree for many, many years and we thank you Liz! She always does a great job decorating the tree with things that can then be donated to a charity. Liz will also host the ornament/cookie swap at her home on Tuesday, December 13th. I hope many of you can attend this fun, festive night and get away from household duties for a night.
Kathy King Tedeschi is coordinating the annual Adopt a Family program. This is a wonderful way to make the wishes come true during the holiday season. See below for information. Feel free to pass the information along to your friends and family! The wine tasting event is all set for March 30th at Black Rock Country Club. Pat Bigger is coordinating the event and has several committee members but needs a few more. Please email her atTpbigger@aol.com if you can assist her. Meeting attendance is not required to help her!
The Women’s Club recently purchased an Adirondack chair for Nick Metzger (and the high school and middle school PTO’s also purchased a second chair). I delivered both chairs to the family last weekend and they were so appreciative. Nick is still in the hospital but will enjoy the chairs when he returns home which will enable him to visit with friends (not yet however) by sitting outside in the fresh air. He will not be able to have visitors inside his home for many months as his immune system is very weak. I received both chairs at cost from Hanover’s Unfinished Business on Washington Street beyond the Hanover Mall.
Sincerely,
Barb Humphreys, President, Norwell Woman’s Club

WHAT’S NEWS?????
ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAM-A NOTE FROM ALICIA TEDESCHI
Dear Members,
The time has come this year for the Norwell Food Pantry to do their annual Christmas Adopt A Family Program. Last year we were able to give presents to over 250 people, we were able to do this because of the generosity of you, our Norwell community.
If you are interested in helping out this year, please email us at norwellfp@aol.com , let us know how many people you would like to adopt or if you would like a full family. Please specify the size of the family you would like to adopt. Small Family is around 3 people, medium family is around 5 people, large family is 6 people or more. We appreciate all the help we can get and don’t want to burden anyone with more than they want or can handle. The wish lists for recipients will start to be turned in around November 21, and we will do our best to match people up and get the emails out as quick as we can.
If you have not received your assignment by the end of November, please email or call.
For those of you who might not be interested in adopting but would still like to contribute we can always use gift cards, these are some of the locations that are requested the most, Target, Wal-Mart, Gas Card, Shaws, Stop& Shop, Hanover Mall etc.
All gifts need to be wrapped and labeled and dropped off at the Food Pantry at Town Hall on December 13, between 9:30-3:30. You can contact the Adopt a Family program at norwellfp@aol.com or by calling 781-690-5050.
Best Wishes and thank you all for your support!

TURKEY TROT UPDATE
Thanks to everyone who volunteered as well as came out to run in the Turkey Trot this past weekend! The unseasonably warm weather attributed to a big turnout of race-day registrants; kudos to Phyllis Wenzel, Patti Nelson and Barb Humphreys for handling the crush of people with ease. A big thanks to Jill Donelan for handing over the framework for a well-organized race and being there for any question, big or small. Thanks also to Jill Donelan and Sally Schiller who were great at procuring sponsorships. Roger Hatfield’s photos from race day should be posted on the website soon! While this year’s race was successful, netting just over $2,000, the NWC will be putting together a committee next spring to brainstorm and get a head start on next year’s race. Thanks again to everyone who supported this year’s race.

Hello Members!
A big thanks goes out to Pamela Duckworth for hosting our October “Welcome Back” social that was held on October 27th. We had 3 new members attend the meeting and we welcome them to the club! Thanks to Kristen Jervey for coordinating this event!
Jen McVay is busy coordinating the November 13th Turkey Trot race. We look forward to attracting lots of runner/walkers to Norwell again this year. With use of a timing company, many runners use this race to qualify for other races.
Pat Bigger has offered to chair the wine tasting at Black Rock Country Club. Thetentative date is Friday, March 30th. More information will be sent out soon. Her most important request is for members to try to think of one business with whom you have a connection that may be willing to donate to our silent auction. This event was very successful last year. A huge thanks goes out to Pat for coordinating the wine tasting which will enable the Women’s Club to continue to make generous donations to local charities.
The club also donated an Adirondack chair to Nick Metzger (the middle school and high school PTOs also donated another chair). Hanover’s Unfinished Business was kind enough to sell them to me at cost which was a huge saving. Nick went into the hospital on September 21st for a bone marrow transplant. The transplant was successful but he still has a long road of recovery for the next 9 months. He will miss his entire sophomore year at Norwell High. He has to be isolated from most people since his immune system is very weak and he is very susceptible to illness even though we may not feel sick. His family was going to purchase 2 new chairs for Nick to sit out front to get outside for fresh air and later this spring possibly be able to visit with friends outside. He will keep up with his school work at home with his family’s help and a tutor. I have started a meal chain for those that know the family and would like to donate a dinner some time during this long road to recovery. The link is listed below. Please feel free to pass it along!
