Happy Spring to everyone!

I would like to thank Pat Bigger and her committee for another successful wine tasting this past March. We raised over $19,000 at the event. Our donations committee will now be reviewing donations requests.

Year-end gathering change in date and location: I had to change the date of the year-end casual gathering to May 31^st at Barbara Humphreys’ home (371 Grove Street, located on Damon Way) at 7:30 pm. Please mark your calendars for this new date and location. Please RSVP to Barb at Barbhumphreys1@comcast.net and I will assign either wine or an appetizer. We are not doing a dinner so I don’t need reservations weeks in advance. I am hoping to get a good crowd to celebrate another successful year of our club (and my last year as president).

Thanks to Kristen Jervey for organizing the egg hunt this year (skipping the breakfast part this year) and also to Maria Johnson for donating the candy for the eggs. Kristen had a great turnout and the kids were excited to have the egg hunt at the middle school!

I will also be hosting a Facebook /Twitter class this Thursday night at 7:30 for $10 per person. Reiko Beach will be giving us all the details about these social networks, including the important security settings. Come and learn how these networks affect our children’s college and job application process.

Would anyone be able to step up as next year’s president? It’s a great way to give back to the community and meet many great people that you may not have had contact with due to different aged children. We are open to any fundraising ideas to change things up too!

YEARBOOK INFORMATION

The NWC is going green!! The 2012 yearbooks will be available on-line only this year. What is Twitter, how it is being used by teens and what you need to know about it. Your children may be posting things that can adversely affect them without even knowing it. The internet is great but it broadens our world beyond Norwell. Bring your child, husband, or friend to get these important details. SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE UPDATE

The Women’s Club is proud to offer their continued support of High school scholarships. The committee has been at work adding to existing members that will complement the review process. Students will be submitting their applications/essays this week, with the committee beginning their reviews in the next few weeks. The scholarships are available to any eligible senior in Norwell that will be continuing their education. Checks are given after the Club receives students’ first semester grades. The committee is comprised of several Club members who may/may not have children in the Norwell school system. For the first time this year, formal guidelines will be used (adapted from the English Language Arts MCAS guidelines) to “grade” essays and to enhance the process of maintaining objectivity when reviewing the submissions. The success of many of our Club sponsored events (Wine Tasting, Fashion Show) help to determine the number of scholarships awarded. Recipients will be announced at the beginning of May. The Committee will then look forward to recognizing these honorable seniors at our upcoming end of the year festivities.

Attendees do not have to be Norwell residents or club members. Reserve a table with your friends for a great night out and help support the Norwell Women’s Club.

With only two weeks to place our food order with Black Rock CC, we have many seats to fill. The Committee has heard that many members and others are going, but we have received no additional reservations in the last two weeks. “A TASTE FOR GIVING” FUNDRAISER – Friday, March 30

A note from Pat Bigger, Chairperson…..

Our largest annual fund raiser this year will be a four-course wine tasting dinner at Black Rock Country Club scheduled for Friday, March 30th at 6:30 PM. This year we will be featuring fine wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle in Seattle, Washington. Chef Brad Cromwell of Black Rock CC has planned a very creative menu fit for the most discriminating pallet. As in the past, we will have live entertainment, a slide show of NWC’s activities from past years. Our focus will be to raise funding through a silent and live auction for the various local groups, schools, and individual needs of our local area. This year our Community Board’s revenue will be donated to Habitat for Humanity in support of the second Norwell home being built on Circuit St. We are in dire need of smaller priced items/services for our board. In years past we have had donations of flower arrangements, baby sitting time, homemade dinners, desserts, dog walking services, electrician’s services, etc. So put on your thinking caps and see how many items we can collect for this worthy cause! Nancy Bailey is coordinating this effort and she can be reached at nancy.bailey@rocklandtrust.com.

Our committee has decided to again organize wine baskets from “Main Streets & Back Roads of Norwell”. Neighborhoods have been identified and a few members will be asked to be their street’s “team leader” to collect donations. These baskets raised over $1,700 last year. We hope that you will support our committee’s efforts. If you frequent a restaurant, salon, another type of business that you believe would donate a gift certificate, product or service, our committee would very much appreciate the help. The value does not matter; as last year we will bundle the donations as appropriate. Our categories are: Dining, Home, Spa/Personal Care, Golf Rounds, Sporting Events, Fashion and Misc. Items. Many hands make light work! For any donations, please contact Pat Bigger attpbigger@aol.com or 781-640-7542 (c).

Hello Members,

Planning is well under way for this year’s wine tasting for March 30^th at Black Rock Country Club in Hingham. Reserve your tickets with Pat Bigger (tpbigger@aol.com) or order tickets online. Tables of 8 can be reserved so get your friends or neighbors together at one table and enjoy a night out. See below for more details. Currently we do not have a chair to run the bunny breakfast. Please contact me if you are interested in coordinating this event. Without a chair person, this event cannot take place.

At the end of the year this year in May we will be hosting a casual night of wine and appetizers instead of a dinner. This change will allow people to join us last minute without planning a month in advance, hopefully allowing ladies to just swing by to chat after getting the family situated for the night. We do not have a host at this time so if you are interested, just email me.
