President’s Notes September 2009
Dear Members,
Welcome Back! Thank you to all who attended our first meeting on September 14th. There are some new and exciting ideas.
First, our website should be updated within a week or so to allow for membership payments to be made online. Please check within the next few weeks and make sure you sign up for this year’s membership.
The committee chairwomen are working diligently on their particular events. The dance committee needs assistance with obtaining chaperones. If someone would be willing to simply make some calls using the Middle School Directory and getting the parents lined up – that would be an immense help. Please contact Diane Daly or Diane Malloy if you can help in any way.
At this time there has been no one willing to organize the wine tasting. Thus, there will most likely not be a WT event this year. However, Karin Gilmartin is working on a potential new “night out” which we will keep you informed on as things progress (stay tuned).
We have attached a list of the dates of the events which have been scheduled so far this year. We still need a hostess for our February meeting. Thank you to: Anna Brown for hosting our upcoming Newcomers Meeting, Cheri Farley for hosting our holiday ornament and cookie swap, and to Pat Bigger for hosting the April meeting.
I know there is always a sense of “pressure” to outperform each year with fundraising. I would like to thank everyone for the amazing results we had last year, but please let’s all just do what we do best. Let’s have fun, promote the Norwellian spirit and help as many families and individuals as we can! I truly thank you all for your help and support.
Please come to our annual Newcomer’s Meeting to be held on Wednesday night, October 14th at 7:30pm at the home of Anna Brown at Oct
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me any time.
Warmest Regards,

Membership Update
Another year for the NWC has begun so please send this year’s membership dues of $30 to Jessica Chase (30 Wildcat Lane). Your quick response will make her job easier to compile the current members for the printing of the 2009-2010 Yearbook.
Next Meeting – New Members Meeting
Our next meeting is our annual New Members Meeting – please bring a friend or two along so they can learn about the Women’s Club. The meeting is Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30pm at the home of Anna Brown, 52 Bay Path Lane. RSVP to Ellen Allen (ellenrob@comcast.net or 659-8120) and let her know if you will be bringing an appetizer or wine.
Publicity
Members are welcome to submit items for publication to Patti Nelson, marshman59@aol.com or781-659-6620 for the Norwell Mariner, a minimum of two weeks prior to the publication coming out on Thursday. Please indicate if you would like to run the announcement/item just that once or several times leading up to the event (I can usually tell by what it is). Should you want something to be included on the cable channel, please do the same. For other publications (e.g. Patriot Ledger), include the appropriate email address for submission.
Halloween Party/Parade
Our annual Halloween Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th from 10-12noon at the Middles School. The committee is still looking for volunteers to help the day of the event as well as volunteers to bake for the event. Please contact Sara Burns (charlestown48@comcast.net) or Sarah McDonald (sarahkmac@gmail.com) if you are able to assist in any way. The day will be a fun day of food, crafts and of course a costume parade.
Youth Dances
The first youth dance is scheduled for September 20th from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. Please contact either Diane Daly at diane.daly@comcast.net or Dianne Malloy at dimalloy@yahoo.com to chaperone this dance or to sign up for a future dance. The dances remain one of the club’s major fundraisers, and much help is needed for their success. Please also encourage your friends who have 7th and 8th graders that their help is always welcome. Future dance dates are October 9th and November 20th. Thanks in advance for your help!
Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run-November 15, 2009
The 4th annual Norwell Women’s Club Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be November 15, 2009 at 10:00am, rain or shine, at the Norwell High School. We need volunteers to help secure sponsorship, organize volunteers on race day, help with advertising, pre-race pick-up, race day registration, food and entertainment. The entry form and online registration will soon be available on the Women’s Club website, www.norwellwomensclub.org. In addition, if you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring the event pass their name and information along. There are different levels of sponsorship: $100 = company name listed on the back of the t-shirt given to the participants; $250 or more = your name and logo on t-shirt; $500 or more your name and logo will appear in a larger font on t-shirt. In addition to monetary contributions, we are looking for donations for food/beverages and items that can be included in the goodie bags handed out to participants. I have already contacted Extreme Pita, Bay State Physical Therapy, and the Boston Running Co. in Derby. We raised more than $8000 last year and I hope to achieve the same success this year. We encourage every member of the Women’s Club and their family and friends to join us in running or walking the Turkey Trot. If anyone would like to help with the event please contact the race coordinator Jill Donelan at jillmarie.donelan@gmail.com.
Norwell Knoll
It has been a tradition for many years for members of the Norwell Women’s Club to provide snacks on the first Monday morning of each month to the residents of the Norwell Knoll for a coffee social. Please contact Micci Fitzgibbons (miccifitz@aol.com) or call her at 659-5972) if you would like to buy baked goods for the Norwell Knoll (we are no longer able to bake from our homes due to food permit issues). The address is 329 Washington St. and the food can be left on a table in the first room on the left as you enter the building.
The Closet
We are no longer accepting summer clothing. We will be having our cleanout the first week in October. Please do not start bringing winter clothing until the second week of October after the clean out. Please make sure that the clothing and shoes that you bring to the closet are not stained nor have holes in them. If you wouldn’t wear it they probably won’t either. Thank you for all of your donations; the people who receive them are very grateful. If you would like to help out please email Micci Fitzgibbons (miccifitz@aol.com) or Chris Gillis (seagirley@aol.com).
Wine Tasting
At this time there has been no one willing to organize the wine tasting. Thus, there will most likely not be a WT event this year. However, Karin Gilmartin is working on a potential new “night out” which we will keep you informed on as things progress (stay tuned).
Fashion Show
The kick-off planning meeting for this year’s fashion show is Thursday, October 1, at 7:00pm at Heather Creel’s home, 35 Judges Hill Drive. All are welcome to attend and share ideas. Food, drink, and childcare provided. Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 8, 2010 for the big show at Indian Pond Country Club!
